Job Purpose:

The Operations Manager (Maternity Cover) will oversee multiple services, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care for the people we support. This role will temporarily support the Head of Adults in implementing divisional priorities, maintaining excellent service standards, and leading teams across our residential and supported living services.

The post-holder will ensure services remain safe, effective, and compliant with regulatory requirements while fostering a positive, values-led culture. Strong communication at all levels is essential to engage teams and support the continued delivery of outstanding care

Lead or support critical projects as directed by the Head of Adults, ensuring delivery within agreed timelines.

Key responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategy

  • Act as a core member of the Adult Leadership Team during the maternity cover period, supporting the Head of Adults in delivering operational priorities.
  • Ensure services achieve positive outcomes for people we support, maintaining safety and wellbeing at all times.
  • Promote an open and transparent culture, empowering colleagues and supporting team development.
  • Support the maintenance and improvement of CQC ratings and ensure services operate in line with best practice and contractual obligations.
  • Provide leadership during incidents, emergencies, or service pressures, ensuring continuity of care and compliance with organisational risk frameworks.

Operational Delivery

  • Monitor service environments through site visits and action plans to address areas for improvement.
  • Support staff in understanding and meeting the needs of people we support, their families, and local authorities.
  • Uphold safeguarding standards and collaborate with colleagues to ensure policies and procedures are robust.
  • Lead or support critical projects as directed by the Head of Adults, ensuring delivery within agreed timelines.
  • Lead on occupancy and referrals, ensuring effective oversight of enquiries, assessments, and placements to maintain service viability and meet divisional targets.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with commissioners, social workers, and families, ensuring needs are understood and transitions are planned with safety, dignity, and positive outcomes at the forefront.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure delivery of high-quality services in line with operational and clinical standards.
  • Embed the organisation’s quality framework across services, promoting a learning culture.
  • Work with the Quality Team to implement post-inspection action plans and maintain regulatory compliance.

People Management

  • Support teams to achieve high performance through coaching, mentoring, and development.
  • Monitor and report on people-related KPIs including engagement, recruitment, retention, and performance.

Governance & Financial Management

  • Ensure services comply with organisational governance, audit programmes, and budgetary requirements.
  • Support commercial performance across services while maintaining focus on quality and outcomes.

Person Specification:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care.
  • Proven experience managing high-quality adult social care services, ideally across multiple sites.
  • Strong track record in team leadership and staff development.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, plan effectively, and deliver results.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and customer relations skills.
  • Experience in budget management, performance monitoring, and project management.
  • Resilient, energetic, and adaptable leader capable of managing change effectively.
  • High levels of personal integrity and the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Experience in a complex, contract-driven operational environment.
  • Knowledge of best practice frameworks in social care and experience maintaining CQC compliance.
