We require a tutor who will create outstanding teaching and learning opportunities for autistic young people and adults who are autistic and have additional complex learning needs.

We offer exceptional and diverse teaching opportunities to support our learners and make their time at college meaningful, creating an inclusive learning environment where everyone feels valued and respects each other. Our learners have complex challenges, including non-verbal communication, sensory regulatory needs, and complex learning profiles. Our curriculum focusses on experiential learning opportunities, supporting functional learning in environmental, vocational, creative, personal development and life skills learning.
No two days are the same so we want tutors who can work at pace, to turn ‘can’t do’ into ‘want to’ You will need to be resilient as our challenges can be complex. Engaging learners in activity and learning outcomes that are meaningful to them, and linked to their EHCP outlines requires perseverance and creative approaches. You will be joining a collaborative team of tutors and learning support assistants, alongside an integrated team of Speech and Language, Occupational Therapy and animal husbandry teams. Outdoor learning and offsite work related learning activity is also a key part of what we do, so be prepared for an active curriculum delivery.

Whilst previous experience of working in a SEN environment at this age profile would be desirable, excellent teaching skills and the right motivation, personal qualities and levels of resilience are just as important.
What will you be doing?
- Establish and maintain good working relationships in order to promote the development and effective delivery of the college curriculum and lead one designated area of the curriculum (dependent on background and skills)
- Teaching students according to their educational needs and acknowledging that every lesson counts.
- Creating a well-ordered and secure environment that will ensure the educational well-being of individual learners within the group.
- Managing behaviour with confidence, resilience and perseverance. Following agreed and consistent strategies alongside school, therapeutic services and parents/ residential colleagues.
- Ensuring careful and ongoing assessment of the students learning to inform further planning and next steps.
- Ensuring that tasks and activities are matched to the ability of the learners- allowing them to make progress at the right pace and level.
- Working with college leaders to complete and teach individual pupil plans where students have specific needs.
- Liaising effectively with parents and a wide range of professionals.
