Speech and Language Therapist (Adult Services)
Based: Calman Colaiste College, Thorney, Peterborough
Salary: £32,195.74 - £40,815.81 (depending on experience)
Hours: 38 hours per week
Annual Leave: 40 days per annum
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our long-standing and experienced therapeutic team as a Speech and Language Therapist.
As a Speech and Language Therapist, you will play a vital part in delivering person-centred support through our Meaningful Life Model – an inclusive approach that ensures each individual has a voice and is actively involved in their education, care and support.
At Kisimul Group, we aim to provide high-quality care, education and vocational opportunities for neurodivergent young people and adults with learning disabilities, often with a diagnosis of Autism. Our services include specialist education, residential care and supported living.
Our mission is to empower individuals to build life skills, grow in confidence and reach their potential. We do this within a therapeutic community that places each person’s needs, aspirations and outcomes at the centre of everything we do. Allowing us to provide holistic care and lifelong learning in a nurturing, supportive environment that fosters personal growth and development.
About the role
As a Speech and Language Therapist you will hold a caseload within the College where you will provide a service to young adults (aged 16 to 25 years). You will support individuals to develop communication skills, with the aim of promoting independence and empowering them to lead a lifestyle of their choosing. Your input will play a vital role in preparing individuals for adulthood and enabling them to engage meaningfully in their communities.
The service will offer a universal, targeted and specialist support which includes carrying out assessments of individuals’ communication needs, working closely with the individual, their family, educators and carers to ensure a holistic understanding. Based on this, you will formulate personalised intervention plans and actively support individuals in achieving their goals. Collaboration is vital in this role - working closely with colleagues, families, carers, and stakeholders to promote the wellbeing and best interests of the people we support.
As your role will be key in preparing young people for adulthood, you will promote functional communication in everyday contexts by embedding support across the curriculum, this may include subjects such as:
· Creative Arts
· Environmental learning (animal care, gardening and woodland studies),
· Personal Development and Work Skills
· Functional skills
· Independent living
· Duke of Edinburgh
· Reading
This is a unique opportunity to build meaningful, long-term relationships with young people, seeing first-hand the positive impact of your support on their learning, independence, and overall quality of life.
The successful post-holder will be required to travel across multiple sites and assist with referrals from adult services, including supported living and residential care.
Due to the high level of supervisory support available within Kisimul’s Speech and Language Therapy team this role could be suitable for a newly qualified or recently qualified practitioner.
